
Yasuaki Yoneyama is Director for finance and sustainability at the GX Acceleration Agency of Japan, with a seat at its executive board. Appointed in July 2026, he oversees treasury functions of the Agency while taking the lead in its strategic outreach and information dissemination activities.
With over 30 years’ experience cutting across international development and finance issues, including stints at international organizations, i.e., the African Development Bank (Executive Director representing Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Japan and Saudi Arabia), the International Monetary Fund (mission chief for Micronesia and task leader for the fiscal sector of Thailand at the Asia and the Pacific Department), the World Bank Group (Special Representative for Japan), Yasuaki brings in international and multilateral perspectives to the GX Acceleration Agency of Japan.
Most recently, Yasuaki was overseeing the Equity Finance Group at JBIC (Japan Bank for International Cooperation) with a strong focus on GX-enhancing projects outside of Japan initiated by Japanese corporates, including deep-tech Japanese start-ups. Earlier on, he held multiple positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Middle Eastern and African Bureau) and the Ministry of Finance (budget, finance, tax, and international) and took part in the deliberations of G7/G20 and TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development).
Yasuaki graduated from the University of Tokyo (Faculty of Law) and the FrenchENA (École nationale d’administration, reorganized as Institut national du service public (INSP); Yasuaki conducted his internship at the prefectural office in Orleans, France, as part of ENA’s academic program).
