Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)

Dato’ Sri Ir. Ts. Shamsul Ahmad is the President/Chief Executive Officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), a position he assumed on 1 March 2026. With more than 37 years of service with TNB, he leads the Group’s next phase of transformation, advancing its strategic priorities while supporting Malaysia’s energy transition and the development of a more sustainable, resilient and reliable electricity supply industry.

His extensive experience spans power generation, fuel management, regulatory affairs, stakeholder engagement and corporate leadership, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the operational, commercial and policy dimensions of the electricity industry.

Prior to his appointment as President/Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Shamsul served as Chief Regulatory & Stakeholder Management Officer, where he played a key role in advancing TNB’s regulatory strategy and engagement within Malaysia’s electricity supply industry. His portfolio encompassed economic and policy matters, the IncentiveBased Regulation (IBR) framework, tariff design and system planning. He also led strategic engagement with domestic and international stakeholders, fostering collaboration and strengthening confidence in support of TNB’s long-term aspirations.

His leadership is underpinned by extensive operational and engineering experience across TNB’s power generation and fuel management businesses. He served as Managing Director of TNB Janamanjung Sdn. Bhd. from 2013 to 2021, followed by Managing Director of TNB Fuel Services Sdn. Bhd. from 2021 to 2022. These roles provided him with valuable experience in power plant operations, fuel supply management and the strategic considerations underpinning electricity generation.

Beyond Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Shamsul contributes to regional energy cooperation and power sector integration. He has served as a Council Member of the Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA) since March 2026, following his tenure as HAPUA Malaysia Country Coordinator from 2023 to 2026. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) and contributes to regional energy cooperation through platforms including the Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM).

In academia and industry development, Dato’ Sri Shamsul serves as an Adjunct Professor at UNITEN Business School and Chairman of the Industry Advisory Panel for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). Through these roles, he contributes to industry–academia collaboration and the development of future engineering and energy sector talent.
